The Iowa Hawkeyes take their unbeaten record on the line to visit defending Big Ten champion Purdue. All-American quarterback Drew Brees may have graduated but Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says Brandon Hanson is becoming a solid replacement.Ferentz says the Purdue defense often goes unrecognized because of their strong offense, but he says the defense is solid in all areas.Ferentz felt the offense and defense both played well in a victory over Penn State but says breakdowns in special teams nearly cost them the victory.Iowa State takes a 3-0 mark to fourth ranked Nebraska. During the past ten years the Huskers are 60-1 at home and Cyclone coach Dan McCarney says they have the best home field advantage in college football.McCarney says there are similarities between Iowa State quarterback Seneca Wallace and Nebraska’s Eric Crouch. The main difference is experience, as Crouch has been playing for years, while Wallace has only three starts under his belt.McCarney says in previous trips to Lincoln the Cyclones were overmatched and feels the gap has closed, some.Despite being one of 24-teams in the country that are unbeaten the Cyclones did not even receive a vote in this week’s Associated Press top-25. McCarney says the lack of respect bothers the players more than him.
