Democrat Senator Tom Harkin agrees with Republican President George W. Bush’s assessment of the Farm Bill that’s being debated right now in the U-S House. A White House statement condemns the republican-crafted House bill, saying it misses the mark and “fails to help farmers most in need.” Harkin says the House committee should’ve taken the time to put together a better bill. He says the bill doesn’t contain anything on competition and concentration in the industry. The Bush Administration says action on the Farm Bill should be delayed ’til next year as there are more important things for Congress to do. Harkin, who is chairman of the Senate Ag Committee, says he’ll still try to get a Farm Bill passed in the Senate yet this year.
