Today’s the first day as director of the Iowa Environmental Council, for new director Elizabeth Horton Plasket. Formerly at UNI’s Center for Energy and Environmental Education, Plasket says the Council’s a coalition of groups and people interested in public health and environmental health.
The Council seeks a sustainable future, with a public-policy arm, research and education, and coalition building. At UNI, Plasket worked with the Environmental Council on surface water issues and she says its focus also includes farming environmental issues.
Plasket has eighteen years of environmental experience in academics, government and industry. She replaces Mark Lambert, who left the Environmental Council after he was appointed by the governor to the Iowa Utilities Board.
