A longtime critic of the F-B-I, Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says the Bureau appears to be doing a good job in its latest round of difficult tasks since the September 11th attacks. Grassley says it’s too early to say the new Bureau director has made a difference, but he says it’s an opportunity for the agency to show things have changed.
Grassley says he has no specific disagreements with the F-B-I’s actions since the attacks.
Warnings were issued by the F-B-I last week about how new terrorist attacks might be imminent. Grassley says the White House thought the warnings might have been unnecessary, but he’s undecided.
He says it’s a “Catch-22” situation, since if they didn’t put out the warning and something dramatic happened, they would have been blamed for not revealing the information to alert and protect the people.
