An Algona police officer has been released from jail after his arrest on charges of stalking a woman while armed. The Iowa Attorney General’s office says 52-year-old David Nelson of Algona posted bond after his court appearance on Thursday. He allegedly went to a woman’s home in Wesley on Wednesday night while carrying a dangerous weapon with intent to use it. The case was referred to the Attorney General by the Kossuth County Attorney’s office to avoid a potential conflict of interest. Nelson has been on administrative leave without pay since May, when he was charged with harassment and trespassing.
