An automatic teller machine technician in eastern Iowa who couldn’t resist the temptation to steal in going to prison. 30-year-old A-T-M serviceman Kevin Witt, of Davenport, was convicted of helping himself to hundreds of thousands of dollars from the machines was sentenced to 15-months in prison, starting January 7th. He’s also ordered to pay restitution of 500-thousand dollars. Witt drove an armored car for Lewis Systems and serviced A-T-M’s on the Davenport riverboat casino. Between November of 2000 and April of 2001, he reportedly stole the half-million dollars from the machines. He apparently spent most of it on sports memorabilia and on firearms.
