Now that the final numbers are in, Iowa’s Commissioner of Elections says the statewide voter registration day, held last month, went even better than expected. Chet Culver, who’s also Iowa’s Secretary of State, says the second annual registration drive was a great success.Over 90-percent of eligible Iowans are now registered to vote. Throughout the day on October 6th, Culver says nearly three thousand Iowans signed up to cast ballots or updated their registration information. He says one key was the wide number of place where Iowans could access the forms.Culver says the September 11th terrorist attacks “highlighted the importance of protecting the freedoms and liberties of our democracy.” He says elections are the “centerpiece of democracy” and registering to vote ensures your right to participate.
