Parts of Iowa expect high temperatures today around 60 degrees — that’s about 20 degrees warmer than normal and follows one of Iowa’s warmest Novembers on record. Frank Boksa, meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in metro Des Moines, says the capitol city area -did- set a record for warmth in November.Des Moines had an average temperature of 49-point-8 degrees, which is 10-point-8 degrees warmer than normal for the month. November was the warmest on record in Waterloo and Mason City, too. There was also less-than-normal precipitation. Boksa says this warm spell much of the state is enjoying appears like it’ll last, perhaps for more than a week. While some parts of northern Iowa got several inches of snow last week, much of the state has seen no falling flakes. He says December 15th is the average date for the first snowfall in central Iowa. So far, there’s been none “officially” in the central part of the state.
