An interfaith gathering in Des Moines tonight will center on ways to end the war in Afghanistan. Reverend Russell Melby, a spokesman for the National Council of Churches, explains the purpose of the meeting. He says they want to discuss and pray about ways to respond to the September 11th attacks without violence. Melby says it’s fair to call the gathering an anti-war meeting, as some of the members are pacifists.Melby says anyone is welcome to come and take part in the discussion.Melby says some of those who’ll attend are totally against war of any kind.Melby says he isn’t in that camp, but he believes the U-S hasn’t done enough to get the U-N involved in negotiations with our so-called enemies. The gathering is tonight at seven o’clock at the First Unitarian Church in Des Moines.
