Some Iowa women say the social security “lockbox” is in danger of being burglarized. The President’s Commission on Social Security meets today to finalize three recommendations for social security reform. A group of Iowa lawmakers is calling for some more choices, however. State Representative Cindy Winckler, a Davenport democrat, explains they don’t see any options they like. She says all three create private accounts, and either raise retirement age or cut benefits. She says far more women than men rely on social security, so they’d be hit hardest by any change Congress makes. Winckler and five other women state representatives called on their congressmen to oppose the privatization of Social Security.
