Iowa motorists may have a little extra money for holiday bargain hunting as gasoline prices in the state have dropped to their lowest levels in many months. David Downing, a fuel data analyst for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, says the statewide average is one-dollar a gallon, with prices ranging from 92-cents a gallon to a dollar-12. Downing says the lower prices are quite welcome, especially to Iowa drivers who are gassing up for holiday road trips. The one-dollar average is down 13-cents from last month and it’s down 38-cents from December of last year. Downing says the current statewide average is the lowest price in more than two-and-a-half years.Downing says some Iowa gas stations have already raised their prices, in anticipation of greater demand during the upcoming holidays. Iowa’s one-dollar a gallon average is seven cents below the national average. The Midwest regional average is a dollar-eight.
