Folks in a tiny northeast Iowa town think an arsonist may be on the loose. One of two suspicious fires in Arlington last week has been ruled an arson. The State Fire Marshall has ruled a small fire set at the Arlington locker was deliberated set December 16 in a plastic trash can. That fire was started the same night a blaze destroyed the Welcome Inn, a popular downtown restaurant on Arlington’s Main Street. No one was injured. Over a dozen area fire departments battled the blaze, but could not save the structure. Several adjacent buildings were slightly damaged. The Fire Marshall says the cause of that fire is “undetermined”, but his investigation continues. An abandoned house was destroyed by fire about a month ago.
