The Iowa football team closed out the season with a thrilling victory in the Alamo Bowl on Saturday. Nate Kaeding’s 47-yard field goal with 44-seconds remaining lifted the Hawkeyes to a 19-16 victory over Texas Tech. The Hawkeyes used a ball control offense to take the lead in the second half and won the battle of field position. Both were crucial against a high-powered Tech offense.Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says the Hawks accomplished two things they had trouble with during the regular season, they won a close game and did so in what was really a road game.Ferentz says he is happy for the seniors who have worked hard to get the program going again.Kyle McCann finished 19 of 26 for 161 yards and no interceptions. He says against Tech’s blitzing defense it was important to be patient, as he says they knew they were going to come after them.McCann says they were concerned when Ladell Betts could not play with a bad hamstring but was still confident the Hawks could run the ball.It has been a roller coaster ride for McCann during his career but the bowl victory was a great way to end it.
