If you have a car wreck while talking on your cell phone, one state legislator wants you to get a stiffer penalty. Representative Steve Richardson, a democrat from Indianola, says talking on a cell phone distracts drivers. He says while people want to say other items also distract drivers, he wants to focus on the cell phone issue.Richardson will introduce a bill in the legislature to increase the penalty for those caught talking on their cell who end up in a traffic accident.Richardson says it’s a compromise idea, rather than an outright ban on cell phone use while driving — a ban that’s already in force in the state of New York.
