An eastern Iowa civil rights leader is leaving, but not before issuing a threat of a boycott.Rock Island County N-double-A-C-P president David Lowrey, Junior, has resigned to take a new job in Reverend Al Sharpton’s National Action Network. In his resignation letter, Lowrey promises a boycott of the Bix 7 roadrace in Davenport if race officials follow through on a plan to give prize money to U-S citizens only. Race administrators say it’ll promote U-S athletes chances to compete in the Olympics. But the last ten Bix 7 races have been won by Kenyans and others who are NOT U-S citizens. The civil rights activist says the planned prize money restriction is discriminatory against blacks. Lowrey will ask city officials to pull the race permit and if they don’t, he promises a boycott and lawsuits.
