Iowa’s First Family has a new dog. Governor Tom Vilsack bought his wife, Christie, a dog — a Labrador retriever that’s now 10 weeks old. They’ve named the puppy Rosie, in honor of the state flower, which is the wild rose. The dog won’t be encouraged to be wild, though. The Vilsacks have enrolled Rosie in obedience classes. And the Governor says the pooch will be trained to help hunt pheasants. The First Dog may have the pedigree to achieve those goals. Rosie is the daughter of a national “field trial” champion.
