A Senator named King is involved in a flap over Monday’s Martin Luther King, Junior holiday. Senator Steve King, a republican from Kyron, scheduled a committee meeting on Monday since the legislature won’t be meeting to observe the holiday. A tiny tempest erupted, so Senator King has decided to cancel the meeting. He says they didn’t weight he ramifications adequately when they scheduled the meeting.Representative Wayne Ford, a democrat from Des Moines who’s the legislature’s only black member, asked Senator King to cancel the meeting in observance of the holiday. Ford says King was sensitive to his views.Ford and King held a mid-day news conference. King says the message is they can work together and pull together.King, by the way, laughed when asked about the irony that he — someone named King — was involved in a controversy over the King holiday.
