Next week’s U-S Senate confirmation hearing on Iowan Thomas Dorr to a U-S-D-A post was cancelled due to scheduling conflicts. Dorr was criticized for comments he made about the success of some Iowa counties due to their lack of ethnic diversity, comments he says were taken out of context. Iowa Senator Tom Harkin, chair of the Ag Committee, says the firestorm over Dorr has not died down. Harkin says leaders of the Congressional Black Caucus and the Family Farm Coalition want to testify against Dorr. Dorr has farmed in the Marcus area, but he’s been on the job in D.C. for months. He’s being considered for the post of undersecretary of rural development at U-S-D-A. Harkin hasn’t set a new date for Dorr’s confirmation hearing.
