Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley is playing both sides of the fence in the recent criticism of the U-S Attorney General. John Ashcroft ordered robes to be made and placed over two partially nude statues in the U-S Justice Building where he holds his news conferences. Grassley says the eight thousand dollar robes may not have been necessary.Grassley says Ashcroft should’ve simply moved his news conferences someplace else. Still, Grassley says he -supports- having the private parts of the tall marble statues hidden by robes. He says it’s appropriate to have the images covered as so much official business happens there. The statues of the Spirit of Justice (a woman) and the Majesty of Justice (a man) have stood at the Justice building since the 1930s.
