As Iowans gather tomorrow to watch the Superbowl and down a few beverages in the process, they are being warned to maintain sobriety if they plan to drive home. Elizabeth Mosely, at the Insurance Information Institute, says recent history shows, it’s a dangerous day to be on the road. Mosely says 108 people died on America’s roads on Superbowl Sunday of 1999 and 52 of the deaths were alcohol-related. Of the last five Superbowl weekends in Iowa, two traffic deaths were reported. Mosely says Iowans who are holding football parties in their homes need to keep their heads on. She says the host has to be accountable, limit your alcohol intake so you can ensure your guests don’t drink too much.Hosts also need to offer guests non-alcoholic drinks and plenty of food, and if a friend’s had too much to drink, find them a ride, a cab or a bed.
