Saturday loss to Minnesota pretty much explains Iowa’s basketball season. The Hawkeyes looked strong in taking a nine point lead at the half then saw the Gophers put together a 20-2 second half run in an 86-78 loss. the Hawkeyes keep digging their hole even deeper and now stand 4-7 in the Big ten and 15-10 overall. In the aftermath, Iowa coach Steve Alford hinted he may go with some of the younger players the rest of the way. Alford says “We’ve got a nice body without a head.” He says there’s no on-court leadership taking place once they get into the games.Alford says there have been some bright spots but the play of the veterans has been disappointing. He says they can’t make lay-ups and free throws, so it’s time to start developing the younger players.
