Iowa’s Air Guard was honored this morning at the statehouse. Twenty-three Iowa Air Guard officers, fighter pilots and other support staff stood at attention and led the Iowa House in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.The 132nd fighter wing in Des Moines, the 133rd test squadron in Fort Dodge and the 185th fighter wing in Sioux City had representatives on hand. F-16 pilot Tyson Herbold, a Sioux City native, was scrambled to protect the President on September 11th.Herbold and other Air Guard crews from Sioux City loaded real missiles in their planes and flew air patrol routes over Offutt Air Force Base.When Bush left the bunker, Herbold escorted Air Force One back to Andrews Air Force base outside of Washington, D-C.
