Sewage continues to gush into the Missouri River from a broken pipe between Nebraska and Iowa and it won’t be fixed for at least a month. That’s faster than the original estimate, according to Brian McManus, spokesman for the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality.The pipe that’s spilling sewage is under the icy river between Sioux City, Iowa, and South Sioux City, Nebraska. McManus says South Sioux City has made every effort to get a replacement pipe in place quickly, plus, the city’s now spending extra money to disinfect the sewage going into the broken pipe.The leak is oozing an estimated one-and-a-half million gallons of sewage into the Missouri River every day. McManus says Nebraska is likely -not- going to pursue legal action against South Sioux City.The original estimate to put in a new sewer pipe was one-and-a-half million dollars. The new estimate is 600-thousand. It should be in place within a month to six weeks.
