An Algona man’s pleaded guilty to lesser charges in the death of a Livermore woman. The trial of 25-year-old Randy Bode for first-degree murder and sexual abuse was supposed to begin Tuesday. But Friday in Kossuth County District Court he pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and second-degree sexual abuse, both Forcible Felonies. The body of Nicole Birde of Livermore was found in November 2000 in a burned-out pickup southeast of Algona. Under questioning by Judge Joseph Straub, Bode admitted to choking Birde to death while sexually abusing her. Bode will be sentenced in March. He’s already been serving time in the Kossuth County jail after pleading guilty last summer to third-degree sexual abuse in an assault in October 2000.
