The Food and Drug Administration is recalling some candies distributed in Iowa that’ve proven to be deadly to children. Iowa Agriculture Department spokeswoman Machelle Shaffer says the candies were distributed by “Golden Country Oriental Foods” and “Five Continents Limited,” both of Chicago.Shaffer says six kids have died by choking on the coconut jelly candy that does not dissolve as quickly as other candies. The candies were distributed under four different labels.The labels are “Don-Empire,” “My Love and Coconut,” “A-B-C Coconut Jelly Mini Fruit Bites,” and a generic label featuring only Chinese characters and butterflies. Shaffer says the candies come in bags and jars. If you have the candy, she says you should return it.You should take it back to the place you bought it, or call the company at 773-847-1700. The candy was sent to several states.The candy was sent to Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Missouri, Kansas, South Dakota and New Jersey. Shaffer says there’ve not been any reports of deaths from the candy in Iowa.
