This week, a woman who calls herself Clara Bradley registered two children she claimed were her grandkids at an elementary school near Des Moines. Ankeny Police Chief Paul Scranton says the woman’s behavior made school officials call 9-1-1 as she couldn’t or wouldn’t answer typical registration questions about the mother’s address and Social Security number. Chief Scranton says his team and the federal agents acted quickly on the tips, including some from Ankeny church members who apparently recognized the woman’s picture on an F-B-I website. The 57-year-old was taken into custody Wednesday at the school when she tried to pick up the children, who are now in state care. Black, alias Bradley, is jailed in Des Moines on a federal murder charge from 22 years ago. The statute of limitations on a murder charge never expires.
