Santa’s Castle, a Storm Lake landmark for over 30 years, is a “treasure” according to an expert on animated devices. The castle contains dozens of animated Christmas figures originally used in department store windows. Lou Nasti, a mechanical engineer from New York City, was in Storm Lake this week to inspect the figures.Nasti says the figures could be worth 300-thousand dollars, but need some updating.Storm Lake Chamber of Commerce executive director Marilyn Monson says they’re donations, and they even have a corporate sponsor, for the restoration project. Monson says the goal is to have the attraction open year-round.
