Madison County authorities say the deaths of three people found in a burned farmhouse have been ruled a double murder and suicide. Sheriff Paul Welch says results are back from the Madison County medical examiner. They show that Howard Iseton died from a gunshot wound and smoke inhalation, Rachel Talli died from a gunshot, and Edith Bice died from smoke inhalation. The couple worked as caretakers for 94-year-old Bice and relatives say Iseton was bad-tempered and abusive. Their five-year-old son was there when it began Saturday night, and the sheriff says he told investigators about seeing his father shoot his mother. He told them Iseton then set a fire and told him to go report the fire to neighbors, but the boy instead hid inside a car parked there. When firefighters were called by passersby, they found the three dead inside the home. Welch says the five-year-old boy will be cared for by relatives, and he praises local Red Cross volunteers for their help. He says they were great about staying with the boy and taking care of him. Sheriff Welch says there’s little left to do except cleaning up the site and filing all the paperwork. He says it seems nobody else was involved, and they’re handling it as a double murder and suicide, caused by Howard Iseton.
