Northern District Attorney disturbed by meth epidemic

The United States Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa is disturbedabout the continually growing methamphetamine problem in the northern part of the state. Chuck Larsen says meth has a certain allure to it as it is cheaper than other drugs, drug addicts like the high as it lasts a little longer. There’s been a sharp increase in the number of traffic stops along Iowa’s interstates that result in either a drug bust or a large amount of suspected drug cash being turned over to authorities. Larsen says the rise in the number of stops along interstates can be tied to the 9-11 attacks. Since there is tightened security around the nation’s airports, drug dealers are taking to the highways. Larsen says Iowa’s location in the Midwest leads to drug trafficking.The most recent stop was Sunday near Stockton in Scott County, whereauthorities allegedly seized over $375-thousand worth of pot during atraffic stop.
