Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan is expected to have a more positive assessment of the economy today in his testimony before the Senate Banking Committee. Iowa Congressman Tom Latham says he’s optimistic the U-S economy has stabilized and is growing, though challenges are still present.Latham is a republican from Alexander. On the subject of jobs and unemployment rates, Latham acknowledges the Hawkeye State is in much better shape than many other states.While Iowa got a preview last week, President Bush today will unveil his plan for retirement security. It’d make top executives more accountable for company performance and would increase pressures on accounting firms. Congressman Latham, who was with Bush last week in Des Moines, says the goal is to make Americans feel more secure about their nest eggs.Reports say the President’s ten-point proposal details how executives could lose bonuses if disclosure is not improved.
