Saturday night’s 3A girls’ championship basketball game will be a one versus two showdown. Second ranked Cedar Rapids Xavier got 19-points from Kristin Jennings to down eighth ranked Carroll 52-40. Xavier coach Tom Lilly says Jennings came to play and was phenomenal in the fourth quarter by carrying the team. Lilly says the Carroll tandem of Lindsey Fischbach and Jenny Siebrecht was tough to stop. He says they’re probably the best one-two punch he’s seen in a long, long time. Fischbach and Siebrecht combined for 40-points but they were the only Carroll players to score.
Carroll coach Don Oleson says they gave a heck of an effort, but couldn’t find the basket. Top-ranked Perry took command by outscoring sixth-ranked Pella 16-3 to close out the third quarter enroute to a 58-34 win. Perry coach Mike Long says the Jayettes have been gunning for a trip to the title game since a first round loss at the state tournament two years ago.
