Hazardous materials -were- aboard the Union Pacific train from which more than 20 cars and engines derailed this morning in central Iowa, but a hazmat team leader says there was -no- chemical leak. Mark Davis is a spokesman for the U-P Railroad, based in Omaha says the train was bound for Eagle Grove from Des Moines and had three locomotives and 19 cars derail in Story City, north of Ames, before five a-m. Story County authorities say there’s leaking diesel fuel, but that’s being contained. Davis says no one was hurt, but there’s some damage to an outbuilding at an elevator.One of the rail cars which derailed was carrying zinc sulfide, which is used to mark baseball fields. Cleanup is expected to take most of the day. The cause of the derailment is still under investigation.
