The White House has announced a new system to define terrorist threats. Iowa Homeland Security Advisor, Ellen Gordon, says the system defines five levels of threat. There’s low, guarded, elevated, high and severe. The threat level is also defined by a color with the lowest color green and red the highest. Gordon is happy to have the new system as she says the system should give all of us a better idea of the potential threat. She admits there needs to be some more definition by state officials, and says that’s what they’ll be doing in the coming weeks and months. The nation is currently at the yellow or the third of the five levels, which means a significant risk of terrorist attacks. Gordon says the system is something that’ll likely be with us for awhile.Gordon says state officials, law enforcement and the public will have a chance to make comments on the new system to federal officials in the next 45 days.
