Iowa Congressman Leonard Boswell is critical of the House budget plan drafted by republicans. Boswell, a democrat, says the budget will eat up 86-percent of the Social Security surplus. He says the issue has to be brought to the table for an open discussion, or the trust fund will eventually be exhausted.Boswell says the U-S can fight the war on terrorism and still balance the budget, but everyone has to hold to that shared goal.Boswell say the republican leadership is using overly optimistic budget figures from the Office of Management and Budget. He says they only chose those figures because they make the proposed budget projections look better.Boswell is running for re-election in Iowa’s new third district, which includes Des Moines, Grinnell, Grundy Center, Knoxville and Oskaloosa.
