The Drake Bulldogs travel to Raleigh, North Carolina this week and an appearance in the sweet-16 of the women’s N-C-A-A tournament on Saturday. The Bulldogs moved into the round of 16 after Sunday night’s upset win over seventh-ranked Baylor.Coach Lisa Stone says it’s great to be working this week. The Bulldogs will take on third-seeded South Carolina on Saturday and Stone says her team has gotten used to the role of underdog. She says they have a lot of confidence going back to Raleigh, North Carolina for the third time in a year.The Bulldogs are now the state’s lone remaining team in the tournament after Iowa and Iowa State had their seasons come to an end last night. Stone says they’re extremely proud to be the state’s only remaining representative.It’s Drake’s first trip to the sweet-16 since 1982.Senior guard Stephanie Schmitz admits the Bulldogs were considered a long shot to get there.Schmitz says the Bulldogs may be thrilled to get to this point but they still want more.This will be Drake’s third trip to Raleigh in a year and junior center Carla Bennett says it is a trip they enjoy.Bennett says the Bulldogs can only ride the role of underdog so long, as people are starting to talk about their team.
