A dose of winter weather forced Northern Iowa football coach Mark Farley to cancel the start of spring practice this afternoon. With more work being done this spring on the roof of the UNI-Dome, the Panthers are being forced to practice outside. Farley says the rest of their Spring schedule will be based on the weather as they have to practice outside.Griff Jurgens stepped in for the injured Tom Petrie at quarterback midway through last season and led the Panthers to the 1-double-A national semifinals before injuring a knee in that game. Farley says Jurgens will see limited action this spring. He won’t dress for practices, but will do non-contact drills. The other player absent from spring practice will be running back Richard Carter. Carter is suffering from “turf toe” that turned into a fracture. Otherwise, Farley says they should be in good shape.U-N-I’s spring game will be April 27th at Wartburg College.
