As an Urbandale man now faces charges in a robbery in Davenport a year ago.57-year-old Richard Matzke may be charged eventually in as many as two dozen robberies at midwestern financial institutions. Davenport Police Captain David Struckman says the force solved the latest three robberies quickly and hopefully that will send a message to burglars.Struckman says several factors contribute to the success of law enforcement. He says the investigative team is strong, surveillance cameras help, and bank workers are well trained in being good witnesses. They’re taught to stay calm, what to look for, things that help catch suspects. Struckman says one thing that helps is that robbers are stupid, and repeat their methods when they try to commit another crime. He says they follow the same patterns, and some people will go in with no disguise. In the latest crime, the Ralston Employees Credit Union in Davenport was held up last Friday, and 25-year-old Martin Dietsch of Burlington was arrested Monday and charged with second-degree robbery.
