A rural Mills County man is in custody after a deputy was shot and wounded.The Mills County Sheriff’s office says 20-year-old Drew Young faces charges including attempted murder and burglary in connection with the shooting of a sheriff’s deputy. 35-year-old Eugene Goos was wounded twice in the upper body after he and a Glenwood police officer were called to find a man reported headed to a home in Glenwood early Friday morning. They’d been told the man might be suicidal. Authorities say the man fired repeatedly at the officers with a high-powered semi-automatic rifle. Goos was treated at a local hospital, the other officer uninjured. Their squad cars were disabled by the gunfire and several homes and vehicles nearby were damaged.
