Good news for some north-central Iowa workers left jobless last summer by a fire.A big ham-processing plant just across the border in Albert Lea, Minnesota, has announced it plans to reopen after fire destroyed part of the plant and damaged the rest last summer. Farmland foods had about 500 people thrown out of work by the fire, many of them from Iowa. A long battle with insurers over the extent of the damage is still winding down, but Farmland has announced it will rebuild the plant. This week, unions are holding meetings with Farmland to determine if their seniority will be honored when the plant re-opens as early as next year.
