The leader of the group of 12 lawmakers working privately to craft new regulations for livestock confinements says they’re bedeviled by the details. Senate Republican Leader Stewart Iverson of Dows says the latest plan is to unveil the details of the plan sometime Monday. He says he can’t guarantee that every will vote for the plan as there are a lot of questions to work through.Iverson, though, hedges a bit on making a firm commitment to getting the bill passed this year.Yesterday, Governor Tom Vilsack issued an ultimatum on the issue. He said if lawmakers fail to pass the bill during their regular session, which is scheduled to end next week, then he’ll call ’em back for a “special session” to do it. Republican House Speaker Brent Siegrist of Council Bluffs says Vilsack’s ultimatums don’t sit well with legislators. Siegrist says the Governor’s running around the state trying to scare Iowans instead of getting involved in the process.Vilsack says he’s tried, but can’t get lawmakers to show him a copy of the livestock bill.
