Fourth district congressional candidate John Norris today attacked his opponent’s action on Medicare reimbursement rates for Iowans. Norris, a democrat from Ames, says he has a plan to change the system that pays Iowa and other rural states less for Medicare claims. Norris says if he’s elected, he first wouldn’t cut Medicare.Norris says republican Tom Latham has voted to cut Medicare reimbursements six times, hurting Iowa. Norris says he’d also form a coalition of politicians from other states that have low reimbursements to give them more power in Congress. Norris says he would fix the problem from the bottom up.Norris says he’d make sure the states with the lowest reimbursement rates got the most money as the rates increase. Norris says the Medicare issue is the biggest concern among the people he talks to. He says they’re tired of the “lip service” Latham has given the issue and they want someone who can really fix the problem.Norris is the former Iowa Democrat Party chairman. He is also the former chief of staff to Governor Tom Vilsack and Congressman Leonard Boswell.
