A Republican candidate for governor has harsh words for the current democrat governor’s demand for a special session to rewrite Iowa’s budget. Doug Gross says nothing will come of the session. Gross says the special session’s just an excuse to spend money the state doesn’t have. Gross charges that democratic governor Vilsack is spending the state into a tax increase next year. Gross says chances of coming up with a state budget more to Vilsack’s liking are “unlikely.”Gross worked for Governors Ray and Branstad, and he says he never saw a special session without having prior agreement with legislative leaders. Gross says this special session likely will result only in lawmakers “twiddling their thumbs.” Gross is a Des Moines lawyer who will face Bob Vander Plaats of Sioux City and Steve Sukup of Dougherty in the republican primary June 4th.
