A former Linn County sheriff’s deputy is appealing his firing, which supervisors say was based on his treatment of prisoners at the county jail. Deputy Sergeant Alan Rouse was fired February 26, after at least two confrontations with a prisoner in the jail’s Administrative Segregation unit. Sheriff’s officials also reviewed Rouse’s history and say there were several inmate grievances and disciplinary measures against him. Rouse’s attorney claims he was a victim of “selective enforcement” — another deputy in one of the incidents was suspended without pay for two days, still another got only a written reprimand.
