Medical researchers at the University of Iowa are making progress in repairing damaged brains.The team is working with brain-diseased mice which have a similar affliction to one that causes mental retardation in children. Dr. Bev Davidson is a professor of physiology, biophysics and neurology at the U-of-I. She says the mice are born with normal brains, but the disease gradually takes over.Dr. Davidson says they’ve found a way to reverse the disease in mice and restore their mental abilities.Dr. Davidson says the procedures show promise for reversing the effects of lysosomal storage disease, which hits one in every seven thousand American children and eventually kills them.
