Iowa farmers are slowly but surely getting the spring planting underway. The State Ag Department’s weekly report says the big changes in temperatures last week from warm to cold hampered plantings efforts. Still, the report shows 12-percent of the projected corn crop is in the ground, ahead of the average of three-percent this time of year. Rainfall has picked up across the state with topsoil moisture reported at 68-percent adequate overall. The report says Southwest Iowa remains the driest area of the state.
