The Mighty Mississippi is lapping over its eastern Iowa banks. It’s more of a nuisance than a flood. But the Mississippi River at Davenport’s Lock and Dam 15 is expected to crest at 15 point 6 feet on Friday. That’s just 6/10s of a foot above flood stage. Davenport officials say that’s just a minor annoyance compared to the 23 point 61 foot crest a year ago. But the high water will soon force the closing of some low-lying, riverside streets in southwest Davenport. And it’s also expected to go over the sidewalk at LeClaire Park in downtown Davenport. That will cause the need for minor cleanup at the park when the water recedes.
