4-H seeks kids for wilderness camp

The 4-H Club is looking for young Iowans who want to be leaders and survivors. Wilderness trips are being planned for backpacking in rugged Colorado and canoeing in northern Minnesota along the Canadian border. Iowa 4-H program coordinator Brenda Allen says the trips are skill-builders.The trips are open to any Iowans between ages 14 and 18. Allen says the teens will learn to read maps, track and identify wildlife, portage canoes and how to live in tents without leaving a trace. She says prior camping experience would be helpful but it isn’t a requirement.Costs range from 300 to 330 dollars. The trips are in July and August but students need to apply now for financial aid, which is provided by the 4-H Foundation. The deadline to apply for aid is May 15th.
