The 22nd-ranked Iowa softball team closes out the regular season at Northwestern this weekend. The Hawkeyes are currently third in the Big Ten race and their last three league games have been cancelled because of weather. Iowa coach Gayle Blevins says the cancellations will keep them from vying for the title, and the key now is to get the best tournament seed possible. Blevins says the Hawks would much rather have the third seed than the fourth at next week’s conference tournament. She says the three seed plays the sixth seed first and then the number two team if they win. The fourth seed plays number five and then the number one seed in the second game. Blevins says Northwestern will try to put pressure on the Hawkeye defense as they typically have speed and play the short game. The teams will play single games on Saturday and Sunday.
