A trip to the N-C-A-A division three regionals will be up for grabs this week when the Iowa Conference baseball tournament opens in Waterloo. Upper Iowa, Buena Vista and Wartburg all tied for the top spot in the regular season race and Upper Iowa coach Mark Danker expects the tournament to be up for grabs as well. He says the number one seed has lost three of the last five tournaments, so anybody could win it.Danker felt he had a contending team heading into the season.Wartburg will be in search of a sixth-straight conference title but this will be a much different tournament for the Knights. A year ago they had already wrapped up the automatic bid before the tournament opened. Wartburg coach Joel Holst says there are six teams that can beat each other. The Knights opened the conference race slowly but closed by winning their last 11-games.Buena Vista is the top-seed in the tournament and a championship would be another step in the rebuilding process of coach Steve Eddy. He says there’s been a lot of community interest, which was one of their goals in rebuilding. Eddy says just being in this position is a step ahead for the program.
