The Department of Human Services is shutting down most of its offices tomorrow in a cost-cutting move. D-H-S spokesman Roger Munns says they’re shutting down Friday to make up for state budget cutbacks. The main D-H-S office in Des Moines, the child support recovery unit, the refugee services unit and all 99 county offices will be closed. However, Munns says the state abuse hotline will not shut down.Munns is asking Iowans to understand when things move slowly, as they’re trying to re-schedule people to get everyone in.Munns says they’re trying to squeeze 40 hours of work into 32 hours, so there are going to be some delays. Munns says the D-H-S will close its offices again for a half day May 17th and for another full day May 24th. Munns says the nine state institutions run by the D-H-S in Oakdale, Woodward, Glenwood, Clarinda, Independence, Cherokee, Mount Pleasant, Toledo and Eldora, will stay open and are handling the cuts with individual adjustments at each facility.
